Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the 27th of August, went to the residence of late Arun Jaitley, the former Finance Minister of India and paid his condolences to his family.

Since PM Modi was on a visit to France for G7 Summit, he could not pay his last respects to Arun Jaitley. Arun Jaitley  passed away on the 24th of August, at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi.

As soon as PM Modi came back from his three nation visit to France, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain, he went to visit Mr. Jaitley’s family and expressed his grief.  He even asked the media and other officials not to interrupt while speaking to the family members of Arun Jaitley. 

Arun Jaitley was survived by his wife, Sangeeta Jaitley, son Rohan Jaitley and daughter Sonali Jaitley.

Mr. Modi accompanied with Amit Shah, the Home Minister of India spent approximately 40 minutes with the family members of Jaitley.

Mr. Modi was very close to his aid Arun Jaitley, who was also known as the backbone of the Bharatiya Janata Party.  After knowing about Arun Jaitley’s demise, PM Modi became emotional and shared about his friend in a speech in Bahrain.

Modi said, “I am a man bound by duty. At a time when there is an environment of enthusiasm in Bahrain, at a time when our country is celebrating Janmashtami, I am here with deep sorrow in my heart. The friend with whom I walked together in public life, embarked on the political journey together, with whom I remained connected all the time, with whom I faced struggles, dreamt and fulfilled those dream, that friend Arun Jaitley, country’s former defence and finance minister, died today (24th of August) (sic.)”

The last rites of Arun Jaitley were performed on the 25th of August with state honours, whereas, on the 26th of August, Rohan immersed his fathers’ ashes in Ganga, Haridwar, Uttarakhand.
