Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, departed for his three days tour of France and the United Arab Emirates.

According to the schedule, Mr. Narendra Modi would visit France on the 13th and the 14th of July.  The visit came at the official invitation of Mr. Emmanuel Macron, the President of France.

Ahead of his visit, Mr. Narendra Modi in his departure statement said, “This visit is particularly special as I will join President Macron for the French National Day, or Bastille Day celebrations in Paris as the Guest of Honour.  An Indian tri-services contingent will be part of the Bastille Day Parade, while Indian Air Force aircraft will perform a fly past on the occasion.”  He further added,  “This year marks the 25th anniversary of our strategic partnership.  Rooted in deep trust and commitment, our two countries cooperate closely across various domains including defense, space, civil nuclear, blue economy, trade, investment, education, culture and people to people ties.  We also work together on regional and global issues.”

During the France visit, Mr. Narendra Modi is likely to hold bilateral meetings aiming to strengthen the relationship of India and France.   Besides the French President, PM Narendra Modi would also meet Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, President of National Assembly Yael Braun Pivet and Presidents of the Senate.

Furthermore, during this visit, Mr. Narendra Modi is also expected to sign a deal for the acquisition of 26 Rafale Marine fighters for the INS Vikrant aircraft carrier.  Additionally, a repeat order for the construction of three more Scorpene (Kalveri) class submarines at Mazagon Dockyards Limited (MDL) through the “Make in India” initiative is also anticipated.

After France, Mr. Narendra Modi would visit the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on the 15th of July, and meet  H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE.

Prime Minister Modi noted that India and the UAE are engaged in a wide range of sectors, including trade, investment, energy, food security, science & technology, education, fintech, defense and security.  He was also confident that the recent visit to the UAE was the beginning of a new chapter in the two countries’ ‘comprehensive strategic partnership’.

After concluding the three days visit, Mr. Narendra Modi is expected to return to India on the 16th of July.
