On Monday, a police officer from Bengaluru was arrested for allegedly raping a mentally challenged woman. The Assistant Sub Inspector offered a lift to the victim when he noticed her walking on a deserted road. The incident took place on Sunday evening wherein he raped the 30 year old woman in his moving vehicle.
Police superintendent Isha Pant told reporters, ”The accused ASI (assistant sub-inspector) has been suspended and arrested after the victim’s mother filed a complaint on Sunday evening.” Also, the driver of the vehicle was arrested for witnessing the crime yet not reporting or taking any action to prevent it from happening or reporting it to the authorities. He also has been accused of hiding the evidence of the crime.
Speaking further the superintendent Pant said, ”As it was a festive weekend, movement of public or vehicles was much less when the incident occurred.” Such incidents have been on the rise in the Country constantly over the years. This is second such incident after the Bengaluru mass molestation case on New Year’s eve.
