Teenagers die clicking selfie on railway track!

On Monday, two teenagers lost their life in New Delhi while trying to click selfies on railway tracks. A group of teenagers went to the railway tracks to click pictures of the oncoming trains in the eastern part of the city. It was while doing this stunt that two of them who weren’t able to move from tracks and were crushed by the train.

A study in 2016 reported that India has a record of highest selfie related deaths in the world. Also in 2014-15 the scholars from Carnegie Mellon University and Indraprastha Institute of Information in Delhi said that 76 of the 127 selfie deaths globally were reported in India. The police officer handling this case said, “While taking photos, they (the teenagers) saw a train heading towards them and moved aside. But another train came from the opposite side, and they were stuck between the two. The victims were hit by one of the trains.”
Also, Deputy Commissioner of Police (railways), Parwaiz Ahmed, said in a press meet that they have recovered the professional camera the teenagers hired for clicking pictures. He said, “We have recovered the camera from the boys that were used for the photo-shoot. It had some pictures and videos also. The video has been sent to be analyzed, while the photographs confirm they were randomly jumping from one track to another.”
The families have been alerted of the events and the bodies of the teenagers have been shifted to a city hospital in eastern Delhi.
