Mangalagiri: In a significant blow to the YSRCP in Mangalagiri constituency, several influential figures have pledged allegiance to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) under the leadership of youth leader Nara Lokesh. The latest addition to TDP’s ranks includes Shaik Akram, the convener of the Islamic Front from Mangalagiri town, who joined with 200 followers.

Among the notable entrants are 22 Muslim minority families, led by Tadepalli Town’s 22nd Ward President SK Bude, comprising individuals such as SK Khaza, SK Basha, and SK Mukhtiar. Welcoming them with yellow scarves at his Undavalli residence, Lokesh emphasized TDP’s historical support for minority communities, citing initiatives like the establishment of a corporation and Haj House during NTR’s tenure, which were further developed by Chandrababu Naidu.

Expressing concern over the alleged harassment faced by Akram, Lokesh assured that a TDP government would prioritize the welfare of minorities, reinstating canceled programs like Ramzan Tofa and Haj Yatra subsidies. He pledged to establish an Islamic bank, provide subsidized loans, and set up career counseling centers for minority students. Lokesh also promised to address grievances of false cases against minorities, underscoring TDP’s commitment to inclusive governance.
