President Ram Nath Kovind explained how achieving Swachh Bharat would be a true tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti.
Kovind is in Gujarat, the home state of Gandhi to pay tribute to the father of the nation on his birth anniversary.
The President was quoted saying, “Cleanliness is not only the responsibility of sanitation personnel and government departments. Today, India is fighting a decisive battle for cleanliness and hygiene through the ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ campaign.”
He went on to say, “Let us also commit ourselves to ensuring public hygiene, personal hygiene and environmental hygiene. It is a multi-stakeholder national movement. Achieving the goals of the Swachh Bharat Mission expeditiously will be a true expression of tribute and regard to Gandhiji on his birth anniversary.”
Kovind went on to appreciate Mahatma Gandhi’s morals and the new direction he gave to the country through his leadership.
“His philosophy of non-violence and peaceful coexistence is of increasing relevance in the present times. Through the symbols of Charkha, the spinning wheel and khadi, he stressed the message of self reliance and dignity of labour,” he said.
President Kovind will begin his engagements in Gujarat by paying tribute to Gandhi at Kirti Mandir at Porbandar.
The President will also be inaugurating multiple projects like, Porbandar fishing Harbour, upgradation of Veraval, Salaya Fish Landing Centre and upgradation of Navibandar.
