According to sources, Khanda, who was associated with the Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar,  and is the chief of the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) was admitted to the hospital recently.  While some sources claim food poisoning to be the reason behind Avtar Singh Khanda’s demise, other sources report blood cancer to be the cause. Notably, the Pro Khalistani leader was suffering from blood cancer.

Avtar Singh Khanda, a native of Amritsar, Punjab, shifted to the United Kingdom in 2007 on a student visa.  He later joined the Khalistani political outfit in 2012, and since then is working actively with the Khalistani separatists groups.  He was also the mastermind behind the recent Indian flag pulled down incident in Canada.  Furthermore, Avtar Singh Khanda, who is also the mentor of the wanted Khalistani leader Amrit Pal Singh, helped Singh to escape police for days.  According to investigation agencies which had probed Amritpal Singh’s case, Khanda was the brain behind the pro-Khalistan preacher’s rise and had groomed him.

Meanwhile, highlighting Avtar Singh Khanda’s criminal record, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had mentioned Avtar Singh Khanda’s name for allegedly attempting to vandalize the Indian High Commission in London on March 19, the day after the crackdown on Waris Punjab De began in Punjab.
