On the 28th of July, the Rajasthan Government conducted a cabinet meeting to discuss the ongoing situation.

During the meeting, Ashok Gehlot, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan discussed points raised by Governor Kalraj Mishra.

Mr. Mishra on the 27th of July, returned the papers seeking approval for the Assembly session.

After the political issues and removal of Sachin Pilot, the Rajasthan Government asked Governor Mishra to approve to conduct an Assembly session.

The agenda of the session was said to be COVID-19 situation and other issues.

However, the Governor questioned the need for calling the session when the Government has majority and the disqualification of Sachin Pilot and 18 other MLAs’ matter is pending with the Rajasthan High Court.

During the Cabinet meeting Mr. Gehlot and Cabinet ministers decided to draft another proposal for the Assembly session.

Mr. Kalraj Mishra asked the Gehlot Government to draft another proposal including a 21-day notice for the sitting of the House; live streaming of floor test and ensuring social distancing in view of the Covid-19 outbreak.

The Raj Bhavan statement regarding the same was issued on the 27th of July. The statement read, “If the Government wants to win a vote of confidence, then it can become a reasonable ground for calling the assembly session on short notice. But it has to be said.”

Considering the conditions, the Cabinet said, a 21 day notice is not important. Abhishek Manu Singhvi, a leader of the Indian National Congress (INC) said, “There have been umpteen instances when the assembly was called with a much shorter notice.”

Meanwhile, the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) on Monday sent a memorandum to President Ram Nath Kovind, seeking his intervention to facilitate an assembly session in the state. The CLP members claimed that horse trading of MLAs was on in Rajasthan to topple an elected government.

Chief minister Ashok Gehlot said yesterday that he spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apprise him of the political situation in the state and he has promised him to “get the matter seen.”

Since the 10th of July, Rajasthan Chief Minister is facing political turmoil with Sachin Pilot, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan.

Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot even accused Sachin Pilot of manipulating MLAs and conspiring against the State Government.

If the floor test takes place during the expected Assembly session, the INC is still in majority.

After disqualification notices issued to 18 MLAs and Sachin Pilot, INC claimed to have support of 102 MLAs.

On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had 72 MLAs of the BJP and 21 independent MLAs of the total 200 Rajasthan Assembly seats.

The majority mark to form the State Government is 101.

If approved, the Rajasthan Assembly session would begin from the 31st of July.

Stay tuned for further updates.
