The Shiv Sena removed rebel Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Mr. Eknath Shinde from the party, amid anti-party activities.

On the 2nd of July, Saturday, the Shiv Sena released an official statement regarding the same and confirmed to remove the new Maharashtra Chie Minister, Mr. Eknath Shinde.  Furthermore, the Party issued a terse letter to Mr. Eknath Shinde, which read, “You have been indulging in anti-party activities and have voluntarily given up your membership of Shiv Sena.”

After the removal of Shiv Sena, the Uddhav Thackeray-led party is planning a similar treatment for the other 39 MLAs, who were supporting Mr. Eknath Shinde and were campaigning against the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) Government.

Meanwhile, after Mr. Uddhav Thackeray resigned as the Maharashtra Chief Minister, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staked claims to form the Government of Maharashtra.

The BJP named Mr. Eknath Shinde as the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra, whereas Mr. Devendra Fadnavis held the post of Deputy Chief Minister.

Furthermore, Mr. Bhagat Singh Koshyari, the Governor of Maharashtra, has asked the newly formed BJP government to prove the majority and seek a ‘vote of confidence in the Special Legislative Assembly session to be held on the 3rd and the 4th of July.
