Ms. Rupa Gurunath, the President of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) stepped down from the post, on the 30th of December, Thursday.

The daughter of the former President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Mr. N. Srinivasan, Ms. Rupa Gurunath stepped down citing personal reasons.  In her resignation she said, there are few business commitments and personal reasons for her voluntary exit, before her tenure ends, officially. 

Ms. Rupa Gurunath said, “My sincere thanks to all the office-bearers and committee members for their continued leadership in moving the game forward during trying times.  The leadership and commitment you have all shown during this period has been exemplary and inspirational.”  Ms. Rupa Gurunath was elected to the TNCA in September 2019 till 2022 September. 

It is to be noted, Ms. Rupa Gurunath is also one of the directors of India Cements Limited that owns Chennai Super Kings Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise. 

Meanwhile, accepting the resignation of Ms. Rupa Gurunath, the TNCA said, “She (Rupa Gurunath) has been instrumental in shaping India Cements back to its leadership position.” 

In addition, during the two years tenure of Ms. Rupa Gurunat, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Team won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy back to back.  The TNCA also hosted two back to back Test matches against England in the first phase of IPL 2021 and the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2021.

Now with the resignation of Ms. Rupa Gurunath, the TNCA needs to appoint an interim president for 9 months, before appointing a full time President in September 2022.
