Satya Pal Malik has been appointed as the new Governor of Meghalaya.
Mr. Malik, who was serving as the Governor of Goa from October 2019, replaced Tathagata Roy who completed his five year tenure as Governor of Meghalaya.
Mr. Malik was appointed by Ram Nath Kovind, the President of India.
The news was confirmed through a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique, Goa on the 18th of August.
Meanwhile, Mr. Bhagat Singh Koshyari, the Governor of Maharashtra would take over additional charges and discharge the functions of the Goa Governor.
With this, Bhagat Singh Koshyari would be Governor of Maharashtra and would also perform duties of the Goa Governor.
Speaking about Satya Pal Malik, he was the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir from 2018 2019.
When the Central Government revoked Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, announcing it a union territory, Satya Pal Malik was transferred as the Governor of Goa.
Satya Pal Malik started his political career in 1965. He was first elected as a Rajya Sabha member representing the Lok Dal, in 1980. He was also elected to the Rajya Sabha as a Indian National Congress (INC) party leader in 1986.
Satya Pal Malik joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) BJP in 2005.
Satya Pal Malik and Bhagat Singh Koshyari would take their respective office charges soon.
