On Wednesday, the Supreme Court asked the Madras High Court to decide about the authenticity of the look-out notice issued against Karti Chidambaram. The son of former finance minister P. Chidambaram is being investigated in a corruption case by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI.)
Chief Justice Dipak Misra said, “Let the Madras high court decide the case on merits within 2 months. All contentions including that of territorial jurisdiction to be kept open.”
Misra further added that Karti request to travel abroad would be addressed by the Madras High Court. On the 16th of June last year a look-out notice was issued against Karti Chidambaram. The notice prevented Karti from traveling abroad as the investigation was ongoing.
The Madras High Court stated that the notices issued against Chidambaram and four others were unwarranted. Apart from Karti notices were issued against C.B.N. Reddy, Ravi Viswanathan, S. Bhaskararaman and Mohanan Rajesh.
Karti in a petition stated the look-out notice was political vendetta by the Central Government against him and his family. The case is related to irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB.) The case is investigating the clearance of media house INX Media by the FIPB. It is alleged that Karti facilitated this with the help of his father’s agency back when P. Chidambaram was Finance Minister.
