Sonia Gandhi, the Interim President of the Indian National Congress (INC,) is scheduled to chair a meeting in Delhi.
The meeting is scheduled to be held in the evening of the 27th of August at the residence of Sonia Gandhi. The reason to call for a meeting is to take a decision and appoint the next President of the Indian National Congress (INC) in Delhi.
After the demise of Sheila Dikshit, the former President of the INC, on the 20th of July, the post of the Delhi INC President fell vacant.
According to sources, due to the next year’s Assembly elections in Delhi, the INC president called for a meeting on an urgent basis.
A senior leader of the INC who wished to be anonymous said, “A meeting of Soniaji is scheduled with leaders of Delhi Congress in the evening.”
On the 26th of August, Sonia Gandhi conducted a meeting with the senior leaders of the INC in Jharkhand and appointed Rameshwar Oraon as the President of INC in Jharkhand.
Apart from President, Ms. Gandhi appointed five working presidents, Kamlesh Mahato, Irfan Ansari, Rajesh Thakur, Manas Sinha and Sanjay Paswan.
The INC also constituted a committee to work on the strategies for the upcoming Assembly elections in Jharkhand.
Both Jharkhand and Delhi will contest the Assembly elections in 2020.
