The Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Saturday denied reports that she was a participant in the presidential elections. She termed these reports as “rumors” and dismissed them.
Neither the government nor the opposition have declared their candidate for the presidential poll yet. But there have been several names doing the rounds for the country’s First Citizen, this includes Swaraj’s name.
In a press meet, she was asked if she was being considered a contender for the post. She said, “These are rumors. I am the External Affairs Minister and you are asking me something which is an internal matter.”
The election is scheduled to be on July 17 and counting will be on July 20. As per the released schedule, June 28 is the last day for nominations. The last day for a candidate to withdraw from the electoral battle is July 1.
