Hyderabad not only received a surprise rainfall it also experienced a shock in the form of surge pricing from the cab services yesterday. Hyderabadi’s took the internet by storm by tweeting and posting statues about the surge pricing and how inconvenient the rates were. When Mr.Sandeep Kumar tried booking an Uber from Vanasthalipuram to Raheja Mind Space yesterday morning, the fare flashed Rs 3,566 on the app. This was not the only case, people from all over Hyderabad posted images and tweets about the surge pricing.
The commoners who wished to use the cab services were not able to do so to reach their destinations as the surge was almost five to six times more than the normal fare. The issue was in heavy rain where it is difficult to step out and find an auto rickshaw or travel on a bus people choose to use cabs. But due to high surge pricing by Uber and Ola they had no option but to stay home or find alternatives.
The Hyderabad police have been receiving a lot of complaints from customers and auto rickshaw drivers about the high surge pricing in the past few months and they have been looking into the matter for some time now. Telangana transport Minister P. Mahender Reddy has given assurance that he is going to look into the matter and take necessary action to keep the fare prices in control.
