The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on the 11th of December, issued a summon notice for the West Bengal Director General of Police (DGP) and Chief Secretary.

DGP Shri Virendra and Chief Secretary of West Bengal Shri Alapan Bandopadhyay, were summoned regarding the law and order situation in the State.

The summon notice came a day after the Bharatiya Janata Party’s National President J.P. Nadda’s convoy was attacked.

On the 11th of December, J.P. Nadda along with the leaders of the BJP’s West Bengal unit, Dilip Ghosh and Kailash Vijayvargiya was in Diamond Harbour area for an organisational meeting.

However, on his way, Mr. Nadda’s convoy was attacked, stones were thrown, following which the windshields of the convoy shattered.

Soon a video of the attack went viral over social media platforms.

The National BJP leaders and union ministers condemned the attack on the BJP National President.

Amit Shah, the Home Minister of India, said the Trinamool Congress (TMC) ruled Government would be answerable to the peace loving people of West Bengal.

Mr. Shah posted a tweet regarding the same, which read, “The attack on (the) BJP president J.P. Nadda is condemnable. No matter how much we condemn, it will not be enough. The Centre is taking this very seriously. The West Bengal Government will be answerable to the peace loving people of the State for this.”

In addition, the Central Government sent a communication to the West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar and sought a detailed report on the law and order situation in the State and the steps taken by the Government to ensure peace.

Responding to the situation, Mr. Dhankar said, the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has to follow the Constitution and maintain the law and order situation, which is continuously worsening for long.

Meanwhile, a TMC Member of Parliament (MP)  Mahua Moitra, hit out at the BJP and denied the allegations on Mamata Banarjee. She said the attack was a plan of the BJP and that is why their security could not foil the attack.

Ms. Moitra said, “Had heard of college BYOB parties. (The) BJP having a BYOS (Bring Your Own Security) party every day in Bengal – CRPF, CISF and In every central force imaginable accompanies each two-bit leader who visits. Shame they can’t protect you from staged ‘attacks.”

The two top most officials of West Bengal have been summoned by the MHA on the 14th of December.
