The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) blocked eight YouTube channels for spreading disinformation related to India’s national security, foreign relations and public order.
On the 18th of August, Thursday, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) released an official notification in this regard and confirmed the blocking of the YouTube channels for their anti national content. Of the total 8 channels, 7 channels are Indian, whereas one channel is said to be a Pakistani channel. In combination, these 8 channels have 85 lakh subscribers with over 114 crore views, till the time it was blocked. The MIB said, “’Fake anti-India content’ was being monetized by the blocked channels on YouTube.” It further added, “Such content was found to have the potential to create communal disharmony and disturb public order in the country. The content was observed to be completely false and sensitive from the perspective of national security and India’s friendly relations with foreign States.”
