The Donald Trump Administration today introduced the H1 B bill in the House of Representatives. The big question here is “What will it mean to India?” The immigration ban of seven countries, including green card holders which has been dubbed as a ‘Muslim Ban’ has been criticized all around the World. The next decision in line is of H1 B visas which will start a war in the global markets as it is set to trigger commercial issues. Trump even during his campaign has included this in his speeches because of local Americans being jobless. The more he protects the local jobs, the more the World will be affected as the labour and capital investments will leave the nation.
India is one of the fastest growing economies as well as markets in the world. This means that there will be plenty of opportunities once the way the things function in the country will change. After the refugee ban, the next bill that Trump is signing is a new executive order that will prevent work visa program. This work visa program includes H1 B and L1 visas which are used by Indian IT professionals. According to the data, every year more than 40% of H1 B visas are issued to Indians. This move is another part of a bigger scheme that helps in USA’s immigration reform efforts.
Silicon Valley, which has the world’s largest technological centers rejected the executive order passed earlier and vowed legal protection to the immigrant employees working there. This is because immigrant employees form the backbone of the IT industry in the United States. Though there is a temporary legal battle for the protection of employees, organizations will lose the battle inevitably at the international level. With this fall in the US IT market opportunities will give India a chance to not only build its own infrastructure but also introspect the market facilities that will be available for our Country.
Trump’s policies have been harshly received by the Indians from the domestic levels. But what most of them fail to see is what are the stakes we as a nation get for development. It is rare that developing countries follow the footsteps of developed countries and though there might be protests it is least likely to affect the President of the USA. Though there are problems that the country might face, the warm relations and conversation between India and USA will be maintained. This is not just because of business realities, but also as the USA sees India, as a growing power to counterbalance China’s market.
Coming to the IT industries, more Indians will be hired by the companies which will lead to less unemployment and overall growth. Also, the Trump campaign’s Buy American and PM Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ can improve bilateral trade if they work cordially. Though there might be issues, this is predicted to be an opportunity for our country to grow internally and increase work opportunities!
