Motera Stadium, Gujarat, all set to become World’s largest stadium

The Gujarat Cricket Association handed over the deal to revamp the Motera stadium to Larsen & Toubro. They are a step closer to making the Motera Cricket Stadium the biggest cricket stadium in the world. The main feature that is being worked upon is the seating capacity. On Thursday, the Gujarat Cricket Association’s (GCA’s) vice-president, Mr. Parimal Nathwani gave the drafts of the deal of revamping the stadium to L&T key officials in the presence of  the main GCA officials.

The Present
The Present structure has the capacity to hold 54,000 spectators.

This is allegedly the dream project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Amit Shah, the GCA president said in a press release “the old structure has already been razed and work will now begin to build a new stadium which will seat 1,10,000 people. This is world’s biggest seating capacity.” Till date the record of a cricket stadium for seating the most number of people is Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), which has a seating capacity of 1,00,024 people. Now with a seating capacity of 1,10,000 people, Motera Stadium is all set to surpass the MCG. Presently the stadium has a capacity of 54,000 in the six pavilions.

The GCA press release read, “The ground is ready to be handed over to the construction company. The new stadium, when completed, will be the largest cricket stadium in the world which will be made to meet all the latest the international standards.” The new stadium will have a high-quality infrastructure for the audience that includes an increase in the number of air-conditioned pavilions. They are also all set to provide top-notch parking facilities.
