Ahead of the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022, over 50 athletes tested positive for the Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus.

Notably, on the 3rd of February, Thursday, the concerned authority confirmed 53 athletes from 12 nations positive for the Wuhan virus.

All the positive members and participants of the Winter Olympics event are currently under isolation, either in China or at their home town.

It is to be noted, the reports of Wuhan virus positive cases in Beijing, came despite efforts like “zero COVID-19 policy” and curbing local transmission by enforcing strict restrictions.  Some of the rules even violated human rights, forcing people to follow or face consequences.  Recently, to prevent Wuhan virus spread, the Chinese Government even launched a metal box quarantine facility, forcing people, including old age to take shelter in those, if tested positive for the virus.

Despite such efforts, many people of Beijing, and athletes of the Winter Olympics were tested positive for the Wuhan virus.  In addition, due to the situation, at least 12 athletes were prevented from participating in the event.

Notably, China announced that it will conduct COVID free 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

Meanwhile, countries like India, the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada have announced diplomatic boycotts of the event.

The Winter Olympics started today, the 4th of February and will continue till the 20th of February.

The Indian Envoy would not attend the opening and closing ceremony of the Olympics, amid the Galwan Valley issue.

Mr. Arindam Bagchi, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA,) on the 3rd of February, confirmed not attending the opening and closing ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022. Disappointed with the torchbearer post, given to honour the official commander involved in the 2020 Galwan Valley clash, the Indian envoy decided to boycott the event.  Taking a dig at the Chinese Government, Bagchi said, “Regrettable that China has chosen to politicise the Olympics”
