Rio Olympics 2016: Sakshi Malik Wins India’s First Medal

New Delhi: Sakshi Malik is the first woman wrestler from India to bag an Olympic medal. She won a bronze medal at the Rio Olympics. With her unusual career choice and immense support from parents, the Haryana girl scripted history with her achievement.

Several A-listers including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Abhinav Bindra, Sachin Tendulkar and others poured their wishes on their official Twitter handles.

“Sakshi Malik creates history! Congratulations to her for the Bronze. The entire nation is rejoicing,” Mr. Modi tweeted.

He added, “On this very auspicious day of Raksha Bandhan, Sakshi Malik, a daughter of India, wins a Bronze & makes all of us very proud.”

Abhinav Bindra tweeted, “Congratulations snd felicitations to sakshi malik. What a great performance. Thank you for lifting the spirits of every Indian.”
