Shreyas Iyer’s Century Powers India to Big Win Over West Indies

India started the five-match T20I series against West Indies with a big eight-wicket win in Lucknow on Tuesday.

West Indies were bowled out for 171 runs in 19.1 overs after India chose to bowl first. Sherfane Rutherford scored 56, while Shai Hope made 52. For India, debutant Naman Dhir took 3 wickets for 31 runs.

India’s chase got off to a quick but difficult start as they lost Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson early. India were 35/2 when captain Shreyas Iyer came to the crease.

Iyer then took control of the chase. He smashed an unbeaten 102 runs from 43 balls, hitting 10 fours and six sixes. It was his maiden T20I century.

Iyer and Ishan Kishan, who remained unbeaten on 37, added an unbeaten 137-run partnership.

India reached 172/2 in just 14.4 overs, winning with 32 balls to spare. The victory gives India a 1-0 lead in the series.
