The Sculptor of Indian Cricket Jagmohan Dalmiya passes away

In a sad revelation, Mango News inform you that Designer of the rise in Indian cricket, Jagmohan Dalmiya, passed away.

Dalmiya was 75 years-old and was admitted to a private hospital after he suffered a heart attack on September 17. He behind the screen tactics of cricketing world earned him the nickname, Machiavelli of Indian cricket.

According to the reports, Dalmiya was admitted in hospital where he died of internal gastrointestinal bleeding and internal organ failure in Kolkata, West Bengal on September 20.

Career Highlights of Dalmiya:

Dalmiya started his career as a wicketkeeper. As a student, he played for cricket clubs.

He was appointed BCCI treasurer in 1983 and was later appointed as the secretary.

He played a major role in securing the rights to host the 1987 World Cup and again in 1996.

In the year 1996, he received 23 votes to 13 for Australia’s Malcolm Gray, in an election for Chairman of the International Cricket Council. He did not win the election because he failed to attain the two-thirds majority which is necessary under the ICC Constitution. Later in the year 1997, he was elected the President of the ICC. He held the position for three years.

In 1996, he was declared one of the world’s top six sports executives by BBC.

It is said by many the Dalmiya knew how to win a board room battle through words.

In 2006, he was expelled from the BCCI for alleged charges of misappropriation of funds related to hosting the 1996 World Cup and later cleared of all charges by the Supreme Court.

He is also known as the master of comebacks.
