India Clinches Two Golds and One Silver at Russian Open

Vladivostok (Russia): It was yet another proud moment for India when our brilliant sports persons brought home two golds and one silver from the Russian Open Grand Prix at Vladivostok last Sunday.

Ruthvika Shivani Gadde, fourth seeded player, emerged at the top against all odds and clinched the gold medal from the local favourite Evgeniya Kosetskaya 21-10, 21-13 in a 26-minute contest. The mixed double’s proved to be nothing short of a major match either with N Sikki Reddy and Pranaav Chopra edging past the Russian duo of Vladimir Ivanov and Valeria Sorokina 21-17 21-19 to claim the top position.

On the other hand, Siril Verma had to settle for a silver after losing 21-16, 19-21, 10-21 to Malaysia’s Zulfadli Zulkiffli. Nevertheless it was a spectacular play which lasted for over an hour during which Verma showed his skills to much admiration.

Indian shuttlers are slowly finding their footing all over the world and Badminton is all set to make a comeback being one of the closely followed sports by the country. For Ruthvika, it is already the second title of the year after winning one at the South Asian Games.
