The Indian Cricket Team lost the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2021 against the New Zealand team. On the 6th day of the test match tournament, New Zealand won with 8 wickets.

After the defeat, Virat Kohli, the Captain of the Indian Cricket Team defended team India and its bowling and said, going in with a four pronged pace attack was possible only with a fast bowling all rounder. During an interview after the match, Virat Kohli said, “You need to have a fast bowling all rounder for that. We’ve been successful with this combination in different conditions. We thought this was our best combination, and we had batting depth as well, and if there was more game time, the spinners would have come into the game more as well.”

At the post match presentation ceremony, Virat Kohli said, “We lost only three wickets (on day one) but we could have got more runs if play had gone on without the interruptions. Today, the Kiwi bowlers executed their plans to perfection and pushed us back, and we were probably 30 or 40 runs short.”

The Indian Cricket team scored 170 runs with 10 wickets, whereas the New Zealand team scored 140 runs with 2 wickets in the 2nd innings of the Test match. In the WTC, India scored (387) runs, 217 in the 1st innings and 170 in the 2nd innings. The New Zealand team scored 249 in the 1st innings and 140 in the 2nd innings, making it 389 runs in total and won with 8 wickets.

The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) took to Twitter and congratulated the New Zealand team for their WTC victory.

The BCCI in a tweet said, “A round of applause to #TeamIndia for their incredible journey to the #WTC21 Final. 👏 👏

Congratulations to New Zealand for winning the World Test Championship. 👍👍
