Bandi Sanjay Kumar, the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana, is set to launch a Statewide Padayatra (walkabout to meet constituents.)
The padayatra would be launched on the 24th of August, as an effort to strengthen the BJP in Telangana. In order to establish a strong hold of the BJP in Telangana, the Telangana BJP President would conduct the padyatra for two months, until the 24th of October.
The official announcement of the scheduled Padayatra was made by BJP leaders Mr. Raja Singh, Mr. Babu Mohan and Dr. Chandrasekhar on the 13th of August after offering prayers at the famous Bhagyalakshmi Temple in Old Hyderabad. The Padayatra named as the ‘Telangana Praja Sangrama Yatra’ would begin on the 24th of August, Tuesday from historic Charminar in Old Hyderabad and would conclude after two months. During the span of two months, the BJP would walk from Old Hyderabad, covering all the mandals and regions and would end in Huzurabad. Initially the Padayatra was scheduled to begin from the 9th of August, but later was postponed due to unknown reasons.
The planned Padayatra of the BJP came at a time, when Telangana is set to conduct a by poll in the Huzurabad Assembly constituency. As per sources, the Election Commission of India (ECI) is likely to announce the Huzurabad by poll notification, before the 24th of August. If the notification would be announced before the 24th of August, the planned Padayatra by the BJP would directly impact the upcoming by election in Telangana.
All the major political parties of Telangana, like the BJP, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) are in the fray to win the Assembly seat. In order to secure the win and gain voters, all the three major parties are focusing on the Backward Class (BC) community to ensure 50 % of the voters, who belong to the BC community.
After the resignation of Mr. Eatala Rajender as the Huzurabad MLA and TRS member, the Huzurabad by election is said to be very important for both the BJP and the TRS.
