Hyderabad: In a renewed push for justice, concerned candidates staged a dharna in Hyderabad on Thursday, calling for the cancellation of JEO 29 and the postponement of the Group-1 Mains exams. The protest began on Wednesday night in Ashok Nagar and continued at the GHMC garden near Canara Bank in Gandhinagar around 4 PM, attracting a large crowd, including many unemployed individuals.
During the demonstration, candidates displayed placards and raised slogans, demanding accountability and fairness in the examination process. They expressed frustration over the decision to allow 34,000 candidates to appear for the Mains exams, despite only 31,000 qualifying from the prelims. Protesters insisted that the exams should only be conducted after resolving the pending court cases related to Group-1.
Tensions escalated as police were heavily deployed to manage the situation. Authorities attempted to disperse the crowd, leading to a minor altercation that resulted in several arrests and left one woman with a minor hand injury. Protesters voiced their anger towards police tactics, questioning their approach to handling the demonstration.
In a continuation of the unrest, candidates attempted to protest again at Ashok Nagar Crossroads later that evening but were met with police intervention, halting their efforts.
