The Supreme Court, on the 12th of December, constituted a committee of three members to investigate the Hyderabad encounter.
On the 6th of December, a Cyberabad Police team headed by V.C. Sajjanar, the Commissioner of Cyberabad Police, killed the four accused in the Disha murder and rape case.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and advocate G.S. Mani filed a petition, seeking action against the Police team for the extrajudicial killings.
After the NHRC’s investigation, the SC, on the 11th of December, reviewed the petition and ordered an inquiry into the encounter.
The three member committee comprises V.S. Sirpurkar, a retired judge of the SC, Rekha, a former Chief Justice of Bombay High Court and Karthikeyan, a former Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) officer.
The committee is expected to start its investigation soon in Hyderabad.
As per the SC’s order, the committee is expected to finish its investigation within 6 weeks from now and submit a report about the same to the SC.
The SC also restricted social media platforms and the media to analyse anything about the encounter case and put a stay order on all the other petitions filed regarding the encounter.
Meanwhile, the Telangana High Court is also going to review the petition filed against the encounter, on the 13th of December.
