The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Mayor G. Vijaya Laxmi met with the family members of the victims of the Padmavathi manhole incident.
On the 16th of August, Ms. Vijaya Laxmi sanctioned a double bedroom house to the family members of the victims who died after entering a manhole in Padmavathi Nagar. In the last week, a Dalit Man died due to asphyxiation while manually cleaning a flood pipeline in Hyderabad.
The two people who died during the cleaning were identified as Anthaiah and Shiva. The incident took place last week, when the victims were forced to clean the manhole manually.
A week after the incident, Ms. Vijaya Laxmi met with the victims’ families. The mayor said that the houses have been sanctioned on the instruction of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister of Telangana, Mr. K.T. Rama Rao. In addition, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government also extended Rs. 15 lakhs each to the two victims’ families.
