Mirza Salman Baig, a class 9 student of Hyderabad on Wednesday hung himself with a scarf. Salman who returned from school locked himself in his room and allegedly committed suicide for being humiliated by the authorities for not paying fees.
Salman was a student of Ifham Talent School, his brother Basheer claimed that the authorities “pulled his pants down and made him sit with much younger boys.” Salman paid the school fee on Wednesday and was publicly humiliated while doing so. Basheer alleges that this harassment has been going on for days. The parents of Salman approached the Cyberabad police and filed a FIR that the management’s behavior drove the 16 year old to commit suicide. The Principal, Khaja Zainulabedin has been arrested in regard to this.
The Hyderabad police filed a case of abetment to suicide and questioned students and teachers in regard to this. They also seized some documents from the Principal’s office. The teenager’s friends said to the police that Salman wept and said will never return to school again. Though his friends said the harassment drove him to suicide, the staff denied these claims and said it was personal reasons that drove him to his death.
The parents alleged that the family took two months to pay the fee as they are short of cash because of Demonetisation.
