Hyderabad holds International Kite Festival.

This year the Telangana Government is all set to hold the state’s second International Kite Festival, KITE 2017. Kite flyers of 17 different countries are all set to participate in this event. The event starts on January 12, Thursday.

The Telangana Tourism and Incredible India have come together and joined the Aga Khan Academy to host the event. It will be hosted at the 100-acre campus of Aga Khan Academy near the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad. The event that starts on January 12 will be held for five days, until January 17. Also on January 12, there will be a prelude to the show at People’s Plaza, Necklace Road, that will display Singapore’s remote controlled kites for the first time in India.

Geoffery Fisher, the head of the Aga Khan Academy said, “Traditionally kites are flown with strings. But, remote controlled flying of kites is something revolutionary, which has not been witnessed much in India.” 41 professionals have flown in from 17 countries that include France, Indonesia, South Africa, Japan, Singapore, Australia, Sri Lanka etc. Also, 30 kite professionals from across the country will take part in this event.

The Telangana Tourism has extended KITE to a week long festival and expects a total of 50,000 visitors from four districts.
