In Hyderabad, many metro commuters shared their suggestion and opposed the fare revision for the Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) ticket fares.

The suggestions and opposing revision in fare was shared on Twitter, after the HMRL sought suggestion.  A commuter of Hyderabad metros Ms. Nivedita said, “Compared to other cities like Kolkata and Delhi, metro ticket fare is higher over here and instead of increasing the price, it would be better if the train frequency on the Blue line (Raidurg-Nagole) is increased, as trains are filled with passengers and there is barely any space to stand during the peak hours.”

Rohith Vakrala, another daily commuter, said, “The fare fixation exercise in Hyderabad metro should not increase the travel fare, rather they should work out other options like leasing out space that is available inside and under the metro stations.  Hyderabad metro should attract more passengers by improving last mile connectivity, frequency of trains and also by increasing the number of coaches.”

Prashanth, another daily commuter, who said if the HMRL is increasing the fare, they should also increase the facilities to passengers, including additional metros.  He said, “We have been using metro for easy commuting and the price hike will burden daily travelers who depend on these services.  If Hyderabad metro is planning to increase the ticket fare, then they should also increase facilities such as increasing the frequency of trains and number of coaches.”

The suggestions poured in after the HMRL sought suggestions based on the recommendation of the Fare Fixation Committee (FFC.)  The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban affairs constituted an FFC, which recommended ticket price revision for the Hyderabad Metro and the panel accordingly invited suggestions from the passengers.

Furthermore, suggestions of the metro passengers would be accepted till the 15th of November.  Those interested could send their suggestions to e-mail id, [email protected] or by post to The Chairman, Fare Fixation Committee, Metro Rail Bhavan, Begumpet, Secunderabad – 500003.  In addition, after the 15th of November, the HMRL is likely to announce the decision regarding the revision of metro ticket fares.

Meanwhile, as of now, the minimum ticket fare of the metro is Rs. 10 and the maximum fare is Rs. 60.   Furthermore, the Metro has recently extended its service timing till 11:00 P.M., amid high traffic from all stations.
