The Hyderabad Police arrested a management student for allegedly selling chocolate bars laced with hashish oil.

According to sources, the accused identified as Rishi Sanjay Mehta (22,)  is the son of a pharmaceutical company owner, used to take orders for his drug laced chocolate bars and sell them.  The drug deals were said to be done through Sanjay’s social media accounts like Facebook and Instagram.  Getting into details about why Rishi Sanjay Mehta started selling drugs, the police investigation revealed that Sanjay was addicted to marijuana and hash oil during his college days.  As he could not meet the expenses for his lavish life, he started selling e cigarettes and later began selling drug laced chocolates for income.   He even learned to make drug laced chocolates and drug brownies also known as hash brownies, selling them in bulk through his social media accounts.  Sanjay used to accept online payments including modes like GooglePay, PhonePe and others.  He used Rapido and Uber for delivery and collected cash through GooglePay.

Mehta was arrested while making one such deal by the Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H NEW) and Musheerabad Police.  After the arrest, the police seized as many as 48 chocolate bars laced with 40 grams of hash oil.  The police also took the mobile of Sanjay for further investigation.

Mr. C.V. Anand, the Hyderabad Police Commissioner said, “Mehta used to take orders for his drug-laced chocolate bars through his social media accounts and used online delivery aggregators for supply after receiving money via online banking transactions.”  It is also noted that Rishi Sanjay Mehta is an absconding accused in two similar cases registered against him with the Bowenpally and Musheerabad police stations in Hyderabad.

Furthermore, Mr. C.V. Anand also confirmed that Rishi Sanjay Mehta sold the chocolates at parties to over a hundred customers.  He used to sell the chocolate bars (of 15 pieces each) for Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 6,000 each and his chocolates were even being advertised in his social circles through status updates on his handles using the code phrase “edible is available.”    Moreover, most of Mehta’s customers were youth between the age group of 18 to 24, including women.

Besides Rishi Sanjay Mehta, the Hyderabad Police also got information about one Mr. Rama Rao, a resident of Visakhapatnam, who used to supply hash oil to Rishi.  The supply of hash oil was usually made through a chain of middlemen including C. Rohit, K. Srikanth Yadav and Bonala Vinod.

A case has been registered against Rishi Sanjay Mehta and a further investigation is underway.
