The Hyderabad police arrested 6 people for alleged involvement in the communal violence happened in Karmanghat, Telangana.

On the 21st  of February, Monday, a clash broke out over illegal cow transportation, which turned violent after stone pelting and attacks between right wing groups and cattle transporters.  According to sources, a few BJP activists (also Gau Rakshaks) were attacked.  To save themselves, they took shelter at a temple, but the people of another community entered the temple and allegedly attacked them.  Later, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) condemned the attack, staged a protest and demanded action against the culprit involved in the incident.

Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Police also started an investigation and arrest six people in the matter.  They were identified as Shiva Chandra Giri (35,) a businessman of Gowlipura, Varpa Lalith Chowdhary (22,)  a businessman from Meerpet, Godavala Sruthik Reddy (19,) a degree student and resident of Meerpet, Medi Ankith (20,)  a degree student and resident of Almasguda, P. Raj Sweekruth Reddy (19,) pursuing management course and resident of Balapur and T. Ramakrishna Reddy, a private employee and resident of Saroornagar.  The aforementioned people were arrested on the evening of the 27th of February, Sunday.

Besides the above, a juvenile was also taken into custody for supporting the violence and attacking police personnel.  Furthermore, Mr. Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat, the Rachakonda Commissioner of Police (CP) said, “When the police tried to disperse the gathering the group damaged police vehicles and pelted stones on policemen resulting in injuries to a sub inspector of police.” 

The arrested were said to be members of cow vigilante groups, who created ruckus for alleged illegal transport of cows in Karmanghat.

All the accused have been arrested under Sections 307, 295A, 153A, 427, 147, 148 read with 149 of the IPC, against the alleged attackers. The arrested were booked for rioting and illegal transportation of cattle which created communal tensions in Karmanghat.
