The Hyderabad Police launched a drug awareness drive in the City.  To create awareness regarding drug usage and its side effects amongst youngsters, Mr. Anjani Kumar, the Police Commissioner of Hyderabad, addressed students of Osmania University (OU.)

The campaign drive was held at the Arts College building of OU.  More than 1,000 students attended the event, addressed by Mr. Anjani Kumar.

The event was a part of the campaign by the Hyderabad Police’s fight against drugs.  The campaign of the City Police is an initiative taken by the Telangana Police to create awareness and fight drug usage in Hyderabad.

Highlighting yesterday’s awareness on drugs, CP Mr. Aniani Kumar said, “You are the powerhouse of this country.  The future generations will follow you.  So, it is very important for every one of you to not to indulge in any kind of illicit activities, such as consuming drugs, ganja, charas and other banned substances.”  He added, “Though Hyderabad is better than Delhi and Mumbai with regard to consumption of drugs, we have to be alert and not get addicted to such drugs.  Apart from that, competition has grown tremendously as the world is now a global village.  Many international companies are coming to India, investing and offering jobs.  So, it’s very important that every student maintain the competitive edge to survive and thrive in society rather than getting addicted to bad vices.”

Mr. Anjani Kumar also asked students to inform the police if they find any drug or banned substances with their friends or roommates.  He urged the students to be vocal about it and ask for help if needed.

The programme was attended by Mr. D. Ravinder, the Vice Chancellor of OU, the Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) of Uppal and Amberpet.

The event came at a time when many drug cases were witnessed in the City.  Two days before, a 21 year old’s Ganja Party was busted at Polo Club in Hyderabad.

Another case was reported 24 hours back, the Hyderabad sub-zone of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) busted a major drug syndicate in the City.  Intercepting a parcel and seizing three kilograms of pseudoephedrine, which was concealed inside three skirts.

In addition, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) also launched several searches at the homes of celebrities of the Tollywood industry.  However, the campaign intensified after the recent alleged involvement of Aryan Khan, the son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son, in drugs usage.  He is currently under judicial custody and an investigation is underway.

Hyderabad is one of the metro cities, which is under the scanner of the NCB for drug uses after Mumbai and Delhi.
