INC To Field Jana Reddy As MLa A Candidate For Nagarjunasagar By Election

On the 17th of March, the Indian National Congress (INC) unit in Telangana announced its candidate for the Nagarjunasagar constituency. 

From the INC, Jana Reddy would file nomination papers.  According to the INC leaders, the name has been approved by Sonia Gandhi, the interim President of the INC.  Mukul Vasnik, the Chief Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC,) confirmed the news. 

The Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) seat of the Nagarjunasagar constituency fell vacant after the demise of its MLA.  On the 1st of December, 2020, Nomula Narsimhaiah, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Nagarjunasagar, Nalgonda district passed away.  He died during the early hours of the day while undergoing treatment for prolonged illness.  Since then, the constituency has been without a MLA. 

The announcement of the INC candidate came a  day after the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the by election schedule.  On the 16th of March, the ECI announced the schedule for Nagarjunasagar and Tirupati by elections in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh respectively.  The Nagarjunasagar Assembly constituency would conduct its by election on the 17th of April. Candidates could file their nomination papers till the 30th of March.

On March 31, the nomination papers will be scrutinized and the candidates are allowed to withdraw their nominations on the 3rd of April. 

The results for the two constituencies would be announced on the 2nd of May.
