Hyderabad: CPI Leaders Burn Effigy Of Waseem Rizvi Over His Petition Hurting Religious Sentiments

In the Amberpet area of Hyderabad, an effigy of Waseem Rizvi, the former Chairman of Shia Central Waqf Board was burnt.

On the 16th of March, local leaders of the Communist Party of India (CPI) gathered in the area to protest against Mr. Rizvi over a petition filed by him.  Recently, Waseem Rizvi filed a petition in the Supreme Court (SC) and demanded removal of  26 verses from the Quran (the holy book of Muslims.)

Mr. Rizvi said the 26 verses of the Quran promote violence, hence they should be removed

Addressing the media, Syed Abid Hussain Naqvi, a CPI leader said, “By filing a petition in the Supreme Court, to remove 26 verses from Quran, Waseem Rizvi has not only hurt the sentiments of Indian Muslims but the sentiments of Muslims all across the world.” He further said that if such acts are done by someone in an Islamic country then he would have been immediately sentenced to public prosecution.

Mr. Naqvi also alleged Waseem Rizvi of defaming India with his deeds.  The CPI leader also demanded hanging to death or sentenced to life imprisonment for Waseen Rizvi.

Sheik Nadeem, the CPI in charge of Amberpet, Hyderabad said with the petition of Mr. Rizvi is trying to disturb the communal harmony in India.

Besides CPI, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also condemned the petition.  Shahnawaz Hussain, a senior BJP leader, on the 16th of March said, “I strongly object and condemn Wasim Rizvi’s petition seeking removal of 26 verses from Quran.  It is my party’s stand that saying absurd things about any religious texts, including Quran, is a highly condemnable act.”

The Supreme Court (SC) is yet to review the filed petition.
