Hyderabad: Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Executive President KTR accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s government of being responsible for the increasing number of farmer suicides in the state. Speaking at the first meeting of the Bharasa Rythu Study Committee held at former Minister Niranjan Reddy’s residence in Manchirevu on Wednesday, KTR termed these suicides as “government murders” caused by flawed policies.
Leaders including Puvvada Ajay, Niranjan Reddy, Satyavathy Rathod, Jogu Ramanna, Rasamai Balakishan, Yadava Reddy, Anjaiah Yadav, and Bajireddy Govardhan participated in the meeting.
KTR highlighted the achievements of former Chief Minister KCR, claiming that he instilled self-confidence among farmers by directly depositing ₹1 lakh crore into the accounts of 70 lakh farmers through loan waivers and support schemes. “KCR reduced farmer suicides to the extent that even the central government praised Telangana in Parliament,” KTR said.
Criticizing the Congress government, KTR said promises made under Rahul Gandhi’s farmer declaration in Warangal, such as a ₹2 lakh loan waiver and ₹15,000 support price, remain unfulfilled. He announced plans to study key issues, including electricity supply, crop prices, and buying centers, starting from Adilabad district on January 24.
The Bharasa Rythu Study Committee will prepare a detailed report on the challenges faced by farmers and submit it to the state government. KTR also announced a farmers’ protest in Nalgonda in line with a High Court directive.
