Land acqusition for Metro picks up pace

The much awaited and constantly delayed Metro Rail in Hyderabad has finally picked up pace. And with the date of launch nearing the pressure to finish the project is increasing on the officials. In a review meeting on Tuesday, a Special Task Force meant to monitor the progress of the project decided to hasten the land acquisitions in Sultan Bazar, Badichowdi, Putlibowli, Yousufguda and Jubilee Hills areas.

K. Pradeep Chandra, who is the head of Special task force instructed the secretary of Minorities Welfare to immediately surrender Wakf properties at Musheerabad Junction and RTC X Roads, for which Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited made payments already. The HMRL is expected to roll out by Ugadi in 2017 or on Telangana Formation Day. They are planning to introduce at least two stretches from Nagole-Mettuguda up to Begumpet and Miyapur-SR Nagar up to Khairatabad. These two stretches have been constructed and are having trial runs from Mid-2016

The project has picked up pace after the Cheif minister K. Chandra Shekhar Rao reviewed the project in November. Several other projects around the city have been long pending. In November the CM reviewed all these and issued orders for completion of these in the immediate future.

NVS Reddy, Managing Director of HMRL said,”The South Central Railway recently giving permissions for construction of RoBs at seven locations. The Chilkalguda Road over Bridge has since been completed and RoB works at Alugaddabavi, Begumpet, Lakdikapul, Malakpet have started.”
