Medaram Jatara or Sammakka Saralamma Jatara, a famous three day festival of Telangana, began on the 5th of February.

The biennial tribal festival, which started on the 5th of February, is set to continue till the 8th of February in Medaram area of Mulugu district, Telangana.

The Telangana Government made all the necessary arrangements for the festival, with Somesh Kumar, the Chief Secretary of Telangana, as the supervisor.

In the district, people started the celebrations ten days ahead of the main event.

People would celebrate the Hindu festival by worshiping idols of Goddess Sammakka, brought from various places.  The three day celebration would witness a footfall of approximately 3 crore devotees from across Telangana and India.

The three day festival is popular as the ‘Kumbh Mela of Telangana.’

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) allotted 1,500 acres of land for parking vehicles, whereas the Tourism Department of Telangana organised helicopter travel services for VIPs in view of the celebrations.

The Indian Railways also made arrangements for train services for the devotees travelling to Telangana.

One of the devotees said, “Our dreams will be fulfilled by goddess Sammakka. I got a job with her blessings.”

The people of Telangana celebrate Medaram Jatara with a lot of enthusiasm and faith.  Besides the public, TRS officials, Ministers and other dignitaries would also take part in the celebrations.
