NGT Issues Notice To Telangana State Government Over Illegal Construction

On the 6th of Jun, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) issued a notice to the Telangana Rashtriya Samithi (TRS) Government regarding illegal construction in the State.

According to the issued notice, the Telangana Government’s Cabinet minister K.T. Rama Rao is alleged of constructing a farmhouse at Janwada near Hyderabad illegally.

The notices were also issued to the State Pollution Control Board (PCB) and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HDMA) in connection with the same case.

The notice was issued, after Revanth Reddy, a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) submitted a plea to the NGT regarding the illegal construction.  In his plea, Revanth Reddy said construction violates the Government Order (GO) 111

Mr. Reddy said, KTR purchased 25 acre site and building structures flouting Government Order 111, which prohibits putting up permanent structures in the catchment area of the Osmansagar Lake.

After the complaint of Revanth Reddy, the NGT organised a fact finding committee.  The committee was headed by the Central Environment Registry Regional Office.  Meanwhile, the NGT issued notice to the State Government asked to submit a report regarding the same.

The formed committee is asked to submit its report in two months and examine whether the 2018 NGT judgment in GO 111 case is being implemented in the state.

Stay tuned for further updates.
