On the 12th of August, Mr. Nomula Bhagath, the recently elected Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Nagarjuna Sagar constituency, took the oath of office.
The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader was administered the oath of office as the MLA at the Legislative Assembly, Hyderabad. The Telangana Assembly Speaker Mr. Pocharam Srinivas Reddy administered the oath to Mr. Nomula Bhagath.
Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, the Home Minister of Telangana Mr. Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Mr. Nomula Bhagath’s family and other TRS ministers (leaders) attended the oath taking ceremony today. Due to the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the event was a low key affair with only TRS members and limited guests.
It is to be noted, the Nagarjuna Sagar by poll was held on the 17th of April and the results were announced on the 2nd of May. Defeating the MLA candidates of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress (INC,) Nomula Bhagath won with a majority of 18,000 votes. While Nomula Bhagath was the TRS MLA candidate, Mr. Ravi Kumar contested from the BJP and Mr. Jana Reddy from the INC.
The Member of the Legislative Assembly seat of the Nagarjuna Sagar constituency fell vacant after the demise of its former MLA. On the 1st of December, 2020, Nomula Narsimhaiah, the MLA of the Nagarjuna Sagar, Nalgonda district passed away due to prolonged illness.
With today’s swearing in ceremony, Nomula Bhagath of the TRS officially became the MLA of the Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly constituency.
