Police arrests Petrol bunk employees in Hyderabad

Demonetisation had adverse effects on some classes of the society. Under this effect, the employees of Bharat Petroleum Bunk in Medchal, Hyderabad collaborated with thieves and carried out a planned robbery on December 12. A total of 10 members were involved in the robbery of which seven have been arrested. The Police also recovered Rs. 2.6 lakh in cash from the seven accused.

Sai Sekhar, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Balanagar zone said that Satyanarayana, the bunk manager, Sanjeev Reddy and Nalla Raju, the supervisors, Shankar Naik the home guard of Hyderabad Police along with staff members Santosh Kumar, Venkatesh, and Bhaskar were arrested. The other three accused Shravan, Mallesh and Subbaraju are on the run according to the police.

The DCP said that “They managed not to get caught by getting cash to replace the missing amounts when audits were done every month. Once the audit was completed, they would take the money away again. Things, however, changed with demonetization and they planned the attack.” He also said that the accused have previously been involved in nicking money from the bunk, but never at such a large scale.

The cops also said that it was one of the accused that informed the police and launched a case about the robbery. Subbaraju launched a FIR the next day at the Medchal Police station. The amount stolen in the robbery fiasco was Rs. 4 lakh, but the total amount that was siphoned was Rs. 22.9 lakh.
