Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s remarks on Lord Ram and Lord Shiva have drawn criticism from political opponents and others.
Speaking at a conclave in New Delhi on Monday, Reddy said South Indians were Dravidians and Shiva devotees, while leaders from North India were Aryans and Ram devotees.
He also said Lord Ram was the God of the rich, while Lord Shiva was the God of the poor.
The comments triggered reactions on social media. Some critics accused Reddy and the Congress of trying to create political divisions based on region and economic status.
Social media users, including influencer Amit Kumar Sindhi and writer Bala, criticised the remarks and questioned the use of religious figures in political statements.
The remarks have added to the political debate around Reddy’s recent comments on religion, regional identity and national politics.
