Techie arrested for running over war veteran

On Monday, a Mtech student was arrested by the Cyberabad Police for driving his car in a drunken state and running over a 72 year old war veteran. This incident happened on December 10 but came to light only after the arrest of 24 year old Prashanth Kumar. A student of JNTU, Kukkatpally, Prashanth was arrested from his residence at Bapubagh colony, Penderghast, Secunderabad.

On December 10, at 5:30 A.M., an inebriated Prashanth was driving from a friend’s home in Gachibowli, when he rammed his Ford Figo into V. Devadanam, who was on his morning stroll near Dargah X Roads on old Bombay Highway. Prashanth who rammed into the veteran, instead of helping the injured fled the scene. At 7:00 A.M., the Raidurgam police patrol arrived at the scene of the crime after receiving an alert from the control room. An ambulance was called but they declared the victim dead. The cops and family members shifted him to a private hospital but he was declared dead on arrival. The veteran was on the road writhing in pain for more than an hour before he passed away.

The police collected CCTV footage from the surrounding areas and found a car’s fender liner at the scene of the crime. The police investigated further and deduced that it belonged to a Ford Figo 2012 model.
The Ford Figo parts can be obtained only at Ford showroom and checked with various centers in the city through which they found Prashanth came for car service and claimed insurance saying that the car fell into the crater at Kukkatpally.

The police arrested Prashanth, who on interrogation confessed his crime. Prashanth along with his two female friends went partying and stayed back at their place where they got drunk till 5:00 A.M. When he realized the time Prashanth left for home despite protests from his friends..
The police sent the vehicle to Forensic Science Lab (FSL) as evidence. Prashanth has been booked under sections 304(ii) (Culpubale homicide not amounting to murder), 201 (hiding of evidence), 202 (Intentional omission of divulging information of the Indian Penal Code and Section 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act.
