Nizam Mir Barket Ali Khan Walashan Mukarram Jah Bahadur, famous as the eighth Nizam of Hyderabad, passed away at the age of 89, on the night of the 14th of January, Saturday, in Istanbul.
On the 15th of January, Sunday, the Nizam Family issued an official statement and confirmed the demise of the eighth Nizam of Hyderabad, Mr. Mir Barket Ali Khan Walashan Mukarram Jah Bahadur. The statement read, “We are deeply saddened to inform you that Nawab Mir Barket Ali Khan Walashan Mukarram Jah Bahadur, H.E.H The Eighth Nizam of Hyderabad passed away peacefully in Istanbul, Turkey late last night at 10:30 pm (IST.) As per his desire of being laid to rest in his home land, his children are scheduled to travel to Hyderabad with the mortal remains of the late Nizam on Tuesday, 17th January 2023 (sic.)”
Notably, on Tuesday the 17th of January, Tuesday, the children of the eighth Nizam would arrive in Hyderabad and take the mortal remains to the Chowmahalla Palace. After completing the required rituals for the funeral process, the burial would occur at the Asaf Jahi family tombs in Hyderabad, Telangana. Nizam Mir Barket Ali Khan Walashan Mukarram Jah Bahadur was born in 1933 and was the last Nizam of Hyderabad, and ruled Hyderabad before it merged with the Union of India in 1948.
Meanwhile, upon hearing the demise of the last Nizam, Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, Ms. Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal and many politicians expressed their condolences.
On behalf of Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Telangana Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) tweeted, “CM Sri KCR expressed condolences on the demise of Mukarram Jah, grandson of the last Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan Bahadur and son of Azam Jah (the Nizam’s eldest son) and Durre Shehwar couple. Hon’ble CM conveyed his deepest sympathies to the bereaved family members.”
In addition, in recognition of Mukarram Jah’s social services in the fields of education and medicine for the poor as the successor of the Nizam, KCR directed Ms. Santhi Kumari, the Chief Secretary of Telangana to conduct Jah’s last rites with the highest State honours.
