On the 3rd of January, Dasoju Sravan, the National Spokesperson of the All India Congress Committee (AICC,) opposed Somesh Kumar’s appointment as the new Chief Secretary of Telangana.

Dasoju Sravan, during a press conference, alleged the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) of being partial with regard to appointing Somesh Kumar.  He also termed the appointment was a ‘quid pro quo’ arrangement. Addressing the media, Mr. Sravan said Somesh Kumar, a 1989 batch officer of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) was selected as the Chief Secretary of Telangana over senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers.

Mr. Sravan said K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, appointed an officer from Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) which is unfair to deserving senior IAS officers of Telangana.

Dasoju Sravan said, “It is unfair on the part of CM to neglect Telangana cadre officers to favour an Andhra cadre IAS officer. This would demoralise other officers as they will find it difficult to work under junior. KCR is neglecting Telangana cadre officers.”

The senior Telangana IAS officers to whom Dasoju Sravan referred are B.P. Acharya (1983 batch,) Ajay Mishra (1984,) Suresh Chanda, Chitra Ramachandran, Pushpa Subramanyam and Hiralal Samariya of the 1985 batch, Rajeshwar Tewari (1986,) R.R. Mishra and Vasudha Mishra of the 1987 batch, Aadhar Sinha, Shalini Mishra, Rani Kumudini and Sri Lakshmi of the 1988 batch and Shanti Kumari (1989.)

Dasoju Sravan also said the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) violated all the norms and rules of selecting the Chief Secretary.

Dasoju Sravan said KCR selected Somesh Kumar, the former Commissioner of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC,) as the latter helped the KCR led TRS win the Municipal elections in 2016.

The TRS appointed Somesh Kumar on the 31st of December, following which, on the 1st of January, 2020, Somesh Kumar took over as the Chief Secretary of Telangana.
