On the 19th of October, Wednesday, the Andevelli bridge across the Peddavagu stream near Andevell village in Kaghaznagar Mandal, Kumuram Bhim Asifabad, Telangana, collapsed.
According to sources, in the wee hours of Wednesday, a pillar of the bridge tilted and partially sunk, causing the collapse. Getting into the details, at 2:00 A.M., on Wednesday, a big portion of the bridge, which includes two pillars and three slabs collapsed. The major reason behind the collapse is due to heavy rains, which flooded the Telugu State of Telangana in July, weakening the bridge. After the tragic incident of the bridge collapse, the area police rushed to the spot and restricted the traffic and vehicular movement on the bridge.
Meanwhile, no casualties were reported as the police already suspended the traffic by erecting walls on both ends of the bridge.
In addition, the transportation to 52 villages of Kaghaznagar and Dahegam Mandals was halted amid the bridge collapse. Furthermore, Mr. Koneru Konappa, the Sirpur (T) Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) and Mr. Rammohan, the Panchayat Raj Executive Engineer also visited the spot and inspected the bridge. Mr. Koneru Konappa said efforts would be made to address the challenge at the earliest. Also, the Telangana Government authorities and the Panchayat Raj Department already prepared proposals to repair the pillar at an estimated cost of Rs. 3 crores.
