Dr. K. Laxman, the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana, on the 31st of July, criticised K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana and Asaduddin Owaisi, the President of the All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM.)

Laxman said Owaisi is running the Government, not K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR.) With regard to this, Laxman stated, “Asaduddin Owaisi had said once that the symbol of TRS party might be a car but its steering was in his hands, indicating that Telangana Government is run by him, not KCR. This is because TRS revolves and runs around the AIMIM agenda.”

The comments came after Asaduddin Owaisi commented against the Triple Talaq Bill, 2019 during the Lok Sabha. Owaisi said the All India Muslim Personal Board will move the Supreme Court and will challenge the Triple Talaq Bill.

Mr. Laxman said according to Owaisi, the Triple Talaq Bill attacks the Muslim culture. He further said, “Being a barrister, he should know how Muslim women have suffered. In the Shah Bano case, it was the Apex Court that ensured she got justice.”

K. Laxman also took a dig at late Rajiv Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India, for not passing the Bill during his tenure.

Laxman justified the Triple Talaq Bill and said approximately 20 Islamic countries have regulated ‘triple talaq’ in various forms. He questioned Owaisi as to why he does not understand this.

The BJP, on the 25th of July, introduced the Triple Talaq Bill in the Lok Sabha, which was passed with a majority of 303 votes.

Later, on the 30th of July, Rajya Sabha also passed the Triple Talaq Bill, 2019, which was a victory for the BJP Government.
