Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar, the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana, wrote to Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana.
In the letter, dated on the 16th of April, Saturday, Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar mentioned the Palamuru Lift Irrigation Project (PRRLIP) which is in an incomplete state for 8 years now. He asked for an open debate on the PRRLIP in Telangana, stating that due to the pending project, people have been struggling due to lack of water.
Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar said the BJP is ready for an open debate on the issue, of how the Telangana Government failed to stop the water sharing of Krishna and Godavari rivers from Andhra Pradesh. He pointed out that instead of targeting the BJP Government at the Centre, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government should see their failure to provide irrigation water to the people of the Palamuru region.
According to sources, the letter of the Telangana BJP President came a day after Mr. Singireddy Niranjan Reddy, the Agriculture Minister of Telangana, took a dig at Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar on the same issue. On the 15th of April, Friday, Mr. Niranjan Reddy asked the BJP Chief and Union Minister for the Telangana State Mr. G. Kishan Reddy whether it was not a fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked the State Government to take up the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Project (PRRLIP) during an election meeting in Mahbubnagar in 2014.
He further added, the TRS Government is working on that project alone, without any financial assistance from the BJP led Central Government. He said that the Telangana BJP leaders have never asked the Centre to accord the status of a national project to PRRLIP and asked about the unfairness that the Upper Bhadra Project in Karnataka have been accorded as the national project, but PRRLIP has not been given the same status.
Responding to the remarks of the TRS Minister Mr. Niranjan Reddy, the BJP Chief in Telangana Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar asked for an open debate over the Palamuru Lift Irrigation Project.
